Motive Install Animal Crossing

The "Calvin's Malware" incident refers to when Calvin got malware after trying to emulate Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Background

At approximately 7:56AM UTC, Calvin posted a message stating "im tryuing to instal animal crossing and i keep getting stuck on installer loading 100%"[1]. No users initially reacted to this message, however after a third screenshot asking what the supposed installer was doing, user "garebare" told Calvin that a Nintendo Switch ROM does not "install". This led to the discovery as Calvin realized he has just installed not one, but two malware programs disguised as animal crossing, as multiple members asked him what he was doing.

One of the supposed malware he ran had a filename of instaler.exe, further adding to the comedic value.

At first Calvin did not believe what members were saying to him, he began to rage bait and not take anything seriously saying things like; "if I got malware why didn't it malware my pc yet", "does it malware when it wants to malware", and "if i got malware why can i delete the malware" until one member "garebare" asked him to open his task manager, he then noticed unrecognized software running like python and obs.exe none of which he had installed.

Reactions

Members were initially quite hostile, calling him stupid and dumb for running an installer for a switch game. The reactions were justified, however, as Calvin possesses little computer literacy and does not know about file types and malware. He tried defending his statements, asking why the malware hasn't done anything[2] and saying that it did not install. (clueless.png)

Aftermath

Members were able to guide Calvin in order to re-install Windows 10 after a failed reset, fully wiping off the virus. [3] He responded to each question with a voice message, and now has skepticism for files being malware.

He also found out his Discord account was hacked, sending crypto scams to his friends. [4]
